7 Fun Spring Activities for Kids

March 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Winter frost is thawing in most areas of the country, and upstart deals website Coupons and Kids is ready to help parents take advantage by listing 88 fun spring activities to do with kids.

"Parents are looking for new ideas about fun and affordable activities they can enjoy as a family," says Margarette Burnette, executive editor and co-founder of Coupons and Kids.  "This comprehensive list is a resource they can use to make the most of their Spring days, and keep boredom away."

Here are 7 of the 88 Springtime activities featured on the website.

1. Organize a scavenger hunt. Give each person or team a list of things to find. Examples could include a special type of leaf or stone that's local to the area.

2. Build a pizza garden. Take a visit to a local garden center and buy peppers, tomatoes, herbs to plant into your own garden. You can even make the garden round, like a pizza, and plant in wedges.

3. Arrange a safety field trip. Contact your local fire department to see if it gives guided tours and small seminars on fire safety. You might even get to ride a fire truck.

4. Stage a backyard water park.  If a warm day is in the forecast, set up a water park in your own backyard with sprinklers, slides and water balloons. Just make sure to clean up the broken balloons so they do not harm pets or wildlife.

5. Find a free concert.  Many community parks have outdoor concerts when the weather starts to turn warm. Check local calendars for events.  Plan to bring blankets and portable chairs, and maybe even a picnic basket.

6. See a local play.  Check with your community to see if a theater or school is presenting a play.  Many are presented for free or a very low cost.

7. Create a butterfly garden. Plant flowers such as phlox, aster and lantana to attract beautiful butterflies.
