The outdoor mall has added 100,000 square feet of new retail, restaurant, and entertainment space. When the “H&M Coming Summer 2014” sign went up out front, word spread fast and people across the Panhandle have been counting down the days until opening. There have been many rumors and those that make Destin their travel destination as well as local residents want to know what else will really be included in the expansion.
Cheesecake Factory will not be a new addition to the area, though there has been a lot of talk of it. Chipotle Mexican Grill IS coming, though. Known for their menu of “food with integrity,” the popular chain is highly respected for their natural ingredients, fresh cooking, and special dietary considerations. Uncle Buck’s Fish Bowl and Grill is also opening in a 20,000 square foot spot. Along with island-themed dining, 16 lanes will be available for bowling and the walls will feature large fish tanks of exotic fish. Uncle Bucks is a restaurant concept created by Bass Pro Shops, a big attraction at the Commons. Zoe’s Kitchen has been a staple of the outdoor mall, located right next to the water park. The Mediterranean restaurant will be moving to a much larger spot and will start offering beer and wine.
In addition to these, the expansion will include another frozen yogurt shop called Yogo Mogo, Tervis Tumblers with customized glassware, Everything but Water, Charming Charlie, and Sunglass World. Bob Perry, General Manager of Destin Commons says, “The addition of this retail space will maintain Destin Commons as the premier shopping destination along the Gulf Coast.” Slowly but surely, Destin is developing more of the “everything you need in one place” objective. This is much like Pier Park in Panama City; shopping, dining, and entertainment all in one shopping center. These new shops at the Commons are scheduled to open this July.
