GOTHENBURG, Sweden - March 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Surgical Science, leading developer of medical simulation training systems,  announced today that it will expand its surgical simulation portfolio with the help of VirtaMed, a Swiss virtual reality training simulator company. Users of the Surgical Science LapSim® simulator now have the ability to add the VirtaMed HystSim™ and UroSim™ simulation modules to their LapSim platform, thus extending it to hysteroscopy training and TURP and TURB simulation.

This opportunity provides Surgical Science customers the opportunity to expand their surgical training portfolio using LapSim. The VirtaMed HystSim™ module includes: essential skills; diagnostic, therapeutic and advanced hysteroscopy training. The VirtaMed UroSim™ module includes: urology procedures and specifically, treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, and removal of bladder tumors.

“This kind of surgical training expansion – from laparoscopic to endoscopic procedures – has traditionally required new hardware and a significant capital investment,” said Tony Rubin, Vice President of the Americas division of Surgical Science. “By partnering with a state-of-the-art endoscopic simulation company like VirtaMed, we’re not just saving our customers money, but also valuable time and resources. Now residents can practice and perfect a far broader spectrum of surgical procedures than ever before within a single powerful simulator system.”

Similar to the Surgical Science LapSim assessment capabilities, the VirtaMed HystSim™ and UroSim™ simulation modules offer users objective assessment reports and exportable data, including video of the simulated tasks and procedures. The VirtaMed modules are available from Surgical Science beginning March 1, 2014. Contact Surgical Science for more information.
