“Both the Child Neurology Society (CNS) and Child Neurology Foundation (CNF) have been working in tandem to permanently endow the Dodge Award,” said Nina F. Schor, MD, PhD, president of CNS. "The completion by Questcor of its commitment … reflects the common goal of Questcor, the CNF, and the CNS to enhance our understanding of and ability to treat disorders of the nervous system in childhood and adolescence. We are so very grateful for this partnership!"
Darryl DeVivo, MD, chair of the Dodge Award Steering Committee at CNS, commented, “Questcor has been a great partner for the CNS and the CNF.”
This is not the first contribution by Questcor to the award. The company committed to funding the Dodge Award in 2011 at a rate of $25,000 annually for 10 years and decided to accelerate its final payment as part of the CNS/CNF strategy to finalize permanent endowment in 2014.
Steve Cartt, Chief Operating Officer of Questcor, noted that in addition to the Dodge Award, the company also supports the Foundation’s efforts to provide support for parents and to educate the public about infantile spasms, a severe, very rare epileptic condition.
W. Donald Shields, MD, president of the CNF, added, “One of the important goals of the CNF is to fund young investigators as they begin a career in research that will improve the care of children suffering from neurologic disease.”
The check from Questcor was presented in Minneapolis at the 2014 CNF Gala Dinner and Fundraiser. Other major contributors to the award include PERF (Pediatric Epilepsy Research Foundation) and substantial personal contributions from pediatric neurologists.
