Baylor Students Launch Tech Companies in 3 Days

March 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Bridging the disciplines of computer science, law, and business, 40 student entrepreneurs at Baylor University will kick-start technology companies in three days.

Founded in 2008 at The University of Texas at Austin, 3 Day Startup ("3DS") has grown to more than 50 universities around the world. The program teaches entrepreneurial skills to university students in an extreme hands-on environment. This is the first time 3DS is coming to Baylor University.

"I participated in a 3DS Austin with UT students last fall. It was inspiring to see other student entrepreneurs from different backgrounds work together to launch their ideas in such a short time period to solve real problems we face everyday. After being a participant, I knew I wanted to bring the program and it's dynamic experience to the students at Baylor. At the end of the day, 3DS is a great way to build and grow a vibrant entrepreneurial community on campus and we're excited to be hosting it for the first time," said Rayyan Islam, 3DS Baylor Founding Organizer and Baylor student entrepreneur.

3 Day Startup begins March 28th, 2014 and runs through March 30th at ThINC Space (http://thincspacewaco.com/) located at 514 Franklin, Waco, TX 76710. Friday, March 28th, the participants discuss and evaluate their business ideas in smaller groups and vote on which ideas will become the focus of the weekend. On Saturday, everyone engages potential customers on the streets and over the phones to better understand the problem their venture addresses. With help from mentors, business students model revenue sources and test marketing strategies, computer science students code prototypes, and designers create branding and user interfaces. On Sunday, the groups will pitch their prototypes to a panel of judges consisting of venture capitalists, angel investors, and local entrepreneurs, who will provide constructive feedback for the road ahead.

Final pitches on March 30th will be hosted at Kayser Auditorium at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business at 7:00 pm. Final pitches are open to the public.

“As an Entrepreneurship and Finance major at Baylor almost 25 years ago, it's great to see the entrepreneurial spirit is still going strong. I look forward to fueling the 'Trep Mojo' in all of these students at the 3DS program!,” said Scott Fritz, Entrepreneur and Baylor Alum ‘89.

3 Day Startup Baylor is organized by student volunteers passionate about entrepreneurship. It is funded by entrepreneur and angel investor Scott Fritz (Baylor ‘89), Steve Kinder of LOFTWall, entrepreneur Rick Martinez, and Rob Simons of Toolbox Studios.
