Follow on Google News | Regals SCA claim inaugural Texas Premier Soccer League TitleBy: Texas Premier Soccer League At the excellent Houston Dutch Lions complex in Conroe, both sides took to the field knowing they stood just this one match away from lifting the Championship silverware and the illustrious title of first ever TPSL Championship winner. Little did they know that it would take 120 minutes to separate the sides after a real goal fest kept the game alive with the scoreline swinging from end to end with the opening goal coming less than 120 seconds after the opening kick off. Despite having lost on both previous league match ups this season, the Regals were not in the mood to allow another repeat of those results taking the lead in just two minutes. However, the Lions were to strike back 15 minutes later to equalize and shortly after took the lead that looked like being enough as they headed toward the half time break but the Regals grabbed themselves another goal to take five minutes prior to the half time whistle, which stood as they entered the break. Both sets of players welcomed the break as the first half had been played at breakneck speed, but there was to be no let-up in the second period of play! Like the first half, the game got off to a quick start, this time in favour of the Oranje but only four minutes later, Regals once again equalized the scoreline after only 53 minutes. Despite both teams prowess in front of goal thus far, no more goals were to follow in th remaining 37 minutes of play and the game headed to extra-time in search of a winner. It was a fitting end to the TPSL season, showing the level of play that had grown throughout the season and the fact that the additional 30 minutes was needed to separate the clubs, was just the highlight the season needed to finalise what has been a tremendous season. The added time was to be a step too far for the Lions, as the Regals took the initiative, taking the lead 10 minutes into the 1st extra period. They added the fifth with just five minutes remaining and as the Lions pushed forward looking to get back into the game with just a few minutes left to play, the Regals added the final goal of the game to make it 6-3. The Regals can be rightly proud of the Championship title and they are now offered the opportunity to participate in the US Open Cup.
