Mexican Footballers Protest Wearing Paper Bags

March 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Footballers in Mexico join together in protest after not being paid by wearing paper bags over their heads.

The players of Atletico Celaya Football Club staged a protest in front of their fans and their directors of football as they posed for a photo. This strange act came as the players had not been paid by the club for the second month running.

The protest happened on match day against their scheduled opponent CF Merida, where fans were left bemused by the stunt. The paper bags covering the footballers’ heads were all drawn on with the peso symbol and slogans which included “Paga Me” (Pay Me).

The players called it ‘enough’ after months of ominous rumblings which saw the club struggling to run the showers and electricity in the changing rooms before and after the matches. The players were also upset with travelling to away games on the same day as the match, even though this would normally happen the day before due to long flights and coach journeys.

Atletico Celaya are not the only club with money troubles and this is not the only such stunt to happen over the last few months, with other clubs going through the same struggles.

This is also not the only stunt recently involving paper bags. A similar episode happened with Hollywood-actor Shia LaBeouf, using a paper bag over his head saying “I’m Not Famous Anymore”.

Paper bags are becoming a symbol of protest across the globe and this use by Atletico Celaya is just another usage to hit the world.
