March 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Common foot injuries in Dance

Most injuries in dancers are overuse injuries which usually occur during class or rehearsals as opposed to during performances.  50% of overuse injuries are foot and ankle injuries.

Common injuries in dancers:

*Stress Fractures
*Pain in and underneath the big toe (sesamoiditis)
*Ankle pain
*Shin splints
*Bunion and hammertoes
*Dancers struggling with toenail bruising and injury
*Blisters
*Callouses
*Warts

Treatment should always start with prevention; it is the best medicine.   Prevention requires early detection of problem areas and knowing if any unbalances in the dancers lower extremity exist and working with a team of professionals; i.e., orthopedists, physical therapist, message therapist and myofascial stretch therapists to properly address any imbalances.
