MANA de San Diego Latina Health Fair is Bridging the Healthcare Divide

According to the Office of Women’s Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Latinos have a high propensity of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.

SAN DIEGO - March 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Latinos are facing a variety of barriers to good health.  While many Latinas desire a healthier life for themselves and their children, almost 1/3 of them lack health insurance.  For uninsured Latinas, it means less regular doctor visits and less preventive care - the end results are less healthy families.  Latinas that live in less densely populated areas also have a difficult time getting to a doctor. The Office of Women’s Health states, “Cultural and language barriers also keep Latinas from explaining symptoms they are having or understanding the doctor's advice”.  MANA de San Diego is addressing these issues by offering the following FREE screenings to bridge the gap to the health care divide:

Cholesterol, Glucose, Blood Pressure, Bone Density, Dental, Body Mass Index, Vision Dental and HIV, STD testing, and more.
Additionally, for low income, uninsured and under-insured women there will be Clinical Breast Exams and Mammograms for women 40+; Cervical Cancer Screenings for women 25+ and HPV Vaccines for women 19 to 26 years of age.
Vaccines and Physicals for children between 2 months and 18 years of age who qualify
Childcare available

We are proud to announce our Health Screenings are being provided by the following organizations:

California Nursing Students’ Association SDSU, Family Health Centers of San Diego, Family Medical Center International/UCSD Radiation Oncology, Inner Images Inc., La Maestra Community Health Centers, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, Philippine Nurses Association of San Diego, San Diego National Black Nurses Association, San Diego Chapter National Hispanic Nurses, San Ysidro Health Center, Sharp HealthCare, Shiley Eye Mobile for Children, South Coast Dental, UCSD Anti Viral Research Center, UCSD School of Medicine, We Support U Program.
