Working with the Mandated Client and Other Treatment Destructive Resistances

 
BOSTON - March 20, 2014 - PRLog -- When someone is forced into treatment either by the court, an employer, or a parent, resistance to cooperation is heightened and can seem impossible to surmount. This complex and multi-layered dilemma will be addressed through case presentations by therapists who are working in mental health settings and discussions by BGSP faculty supervisors and participants. This workshop will also offer an opportunity for participants to discuss the challenges of working with the mandated client and other treatment destructive resistances in their own case loads.

Case Presentations:

The presenters are doctoral students at BGSP. Jonathan Kelley, M.A., LMHC,works with adolescents in a treatment program of the Department of Youth Systems. Gabriella Perez-Gil, M.A., works with a variety of populations in a mental health setting.

Discussants:
Joan White, Psya.D. and Vincent Panetta, Ph.D.,
are on the faculty at BGSP. Both have extensive experience working with resistant patients in a variety of mental health settings.

2 CE Credits

$30 in advance, $40 at the door

Participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the nature of treatment destructive resistances.
2. Compare expected resistance to treatment and the resistance encountered in a mandated caser.
3. Discuss possible interventions and the theory behind their effectiveness.
