“From Out of the Woodwork just seemed to write itself,” Peckham says. “One morning my wife Lynn and I sat at the breakfast table talking about possible story lines for a new short story. She said the coins in my pocket could tell some stories and I responded that an old house could tell even better stories.” “They’d come from out of the woodwork,” Lynn said. That became the title of a soon to be written short story. As the story unfolded Peckham realized it was far too long for a short or even too long for a long story, so he went for a novella, but it ended up being a full-blown mystery novel with a touch of the paranormal… his first novel ever. From Out of the Woodwork is the story of a young Toronto, Ontario contractor, Sean Kennedy. His company buys derelict homes, in up-scale neighbourhoods, and converts them into multi-family dwellings… slums waiting to happen. His latest project is 29 Livery Lane in central Toronto, just off Yonge St.. As he renovates Sean encounters spirits from the past... past owners of the home. From Out of the Woodwork takes the reader on journeys through a family’s decision to sail on the Titanic, a murder in the house, a Canadian battalion landing at Juno Beach in World War Two, a Russian ballerina’s escape from Immigration Canada and many more exciting experiences up to the decision, by Sean, to take his family on a holiday to Boston then, to Los Angeles and Disneyland on that fateful day, Sept. 11, 2001. Bill's career, which spanned nearly fifty years, was a pretty grounded career. Twenty years in the lumber business, in Ontario and thirty years as a broadcaster in radio and national television. Through those years he was featured in more than a dozen home shows a year. In 2002 Bill moved, to Kelowna, BC, to be with his high school sweetheart, Lynn Vaughan, after her husband, Mark, passed away in 2001. Lynn soon recognized Bill's ability to spin a yarn and encouraged him to put his stories on paper, as it were. He crafted short story after short story, and then “The Novel” From Out of the Woodwork sprung from his computer.
