Mid-America Association of Real Estate Investors Presents Bad Stuff in Our Houses

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - March 20, 2014 - PRLog -- When you deal in houses, whether to flip, rehab, rent or to live in there are so many things that we need to know about that we didn't know a few years ago.  There are so many things that we find in our houses that could be a problem, might not be a problem and may or may not be regulated.

Asbestos:  So the first bad thing you need to know about is Asbestos . . . it can kill you over time.  Do you know when it needs to be removed and when you can leave it be?  When do you need to hire an expert and when can you take care of it yourself and how can you take care of it?  What are the rules and regulations that we as real estate professionals need to know?

Lead:  It has been in paint for many years and was highly used in our house paint, in different plastics still used in our houses today and in tile.  When is it a problem and when is it ok?  When making renovations what do you need to know to keep on the right side of the regulations, what kind of certifications do you need or does your contractor need?  Have you heard the term RRP?

Mold:  Where there is water there is or can be mold?  The mold could be a minor irritant or a major health hazard.  Knowing how to clean it up properly and make sure it is cleaned up can make or break the deal.

Meth:  The newest health hazard on the block is the residue from a meth lab.  When we are looking at potential houses, what should be a trigger for us to suspect meth?  And if there is a meth issues, what is involved in the clean up?

Regulations:  There are many different regulations as home owners, home sellers, and home remodelers that we need to know about with all of these issues.  Make sure you know what the regulations are to make sure you are protected.
