Follow on Google News | Enuma Elish Video Launched at Spring EquinoxFollowing a 3000 year old tradition, British author Wyken Seagrave has created a video of the 21st century version of the Babylonian story of creation, Enuma Elish. This will be published at the moment of the spring equinox, 16:57 UTC 20 March 2014.
By: Enuma Elish Org A Babylonian priest used to tell the traditional version of this story every spring, as part of the New Year celebrations which included the confinement of Marduk, the god of Babylon, in the underworld and the humiliation of the king. For over a thousand years the story had been told and modified as first one city and then another gained supremacy over Mesopotamia. The story was always re-written to make the god of the dominant city feature as the leader of the gods. The New Year Festival used to include the reading of the Destinies of the Land, predicting the fortunes of the different city-states over the coming year. The modern story of creation can also help us make predictions. "I believe there are many benefits for everyone in the modern world to know the latest story of where we came from," Wyken Seagrave explained as he launched the video. "It is part of our heritage, it gives a profound sense of where we are and it teaches us lessons about the long-term trends of history which can be used to make predictions about the future." Wyken plans to re-issue the video every spring, making improvements to the quality of the information, and hopes that people will take part in this ancient tradition by watching it and making comments. A preview of the Enuma Elish video for 2014 is available now on http://enumaelish.org. The official video will be published there at exactly the moment of the spring equinox. Wyken invites people to comment on the video, and welcomes help in improving it for future years. End
