Aviva Gittle, owner of Aviva Gittle Publishing and sponsor of the contest said, "Guess What is at the Zoo? is a perfect blend of fun and learning. Over a dozen animals are physically described in simple rhyming verse. But, Ms. O’Neill manages to include facts about each, like what happens to a zebra’s stripes and how long a baby kangaroo gets to stay in its mama’s pouch."
What makes Guess What books unique is that the illustrations are done by kids around the world. O'Neill holds a free art contest for each book and kids between the ages of 5-17 are eligible to enter. Thirteen winning artists are chosen and their illustrations are featured in the book.
Guess What is at the Zoo? included illustrations by kids in Hawaii, California, and Florida. Previous Guess What books featured art from young artists in India, Australia, Texas, California, Colorado, and Pennysylvania, ranging from six years old to sixteen.
O'Neill is excited about her fourth book in the series, Guess What is in Grandma's Garden? which is scheduled for release in early summer 2014. That means another Worldwide Kids Art Contest is going on now through March 31. O'Neill loves giving kids this creative opportunity to receive recognition for their talent. She also supports a local children's hospital through book donations.
