San Miguel de Allende and West Palm Beach Became Sister Cities

NEW YORK - March 18, 2014 - PRLog -- San Miguel de Allende became the Sister City of the Florida’s  West Palm Beach, Florida last night when the Mayor of San Miguel de Allende, Mauricio Trejo Pureco, and the Mayor of West Palm Beach, Jeri Muoio, signed a commitment at an official ceremony held by the City of West Palm Beach.

“It is a great honor for me to sign this agreement as Mayor of San Miguel Allende with West Palm Beach as the now Sister Cities share so many qualities, one being the importance we each place on education, the arts, and a common interest in tourism as a means for economic development and cultural exchange. I am confident that tourism will be the activity that is going to lead the collaboration of our cities,” said Mr. Mauricio Trejo, Mayor of San Miguel de Allende.

During his brief remarks, Trejo Pureco invited the residents of West Palm Beach to visit San Miguel de Allende, and Mayor Muoio agreed with this invitation.

“If you ever had the opportunity to take a wonderful trip, that is a great place to go and visit, it’s a World Heritage City, an artist heaven, the most amazing architecture and the most wonderful people”, mentioned Mayor Muoio.

Trejo Pureco added that there is a huge potential for both cities’ residents to explore the great diversity of cultural life found in each city. “We invite the residents of West Palm Beach to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of San Miguel de Allende you will find that you are most welcomed in what has become America’s second home.”

The Sister City Program, administered by Sister Cities International®, was initiated by the President of the United States of America in 1956 to encourage greater friendship and understanding between the United States and other nations through direct personal contact.

“In order to foster those goals” sustains the Agreement, “the people of West Palm Beach and San Miguel de Allende in a gesture of friendship and goodwill, agree to collaborate for the mutual benefit of their communities by exploring educational, economic and cultural opportunities”.

San Miguel de Allende is one of Mexico’s most popular destinations for Americans because the UNESCO World Heritage site provides a unique setting for cultural, gastronomical and luxurious getaways. A well-awarded city, the recently named "Best City in the World" by Condé Nast Traveler’s readers, is also one of the best positioned places in the international festival circuit with events such as the International Film Festival, Jazz & Blues Festival and the La Calaca cultural festival.  In 2014, San Miguel will open its first convention center, which will place the popular city on the meeting industry map.
