Hospital Prepares for ICD-10 with One Year Unlimited Access Training Course

BEDFORD, Mass. - March 17, 2014 - PRLog -- William W. Backus Hospital health system, a 213-bed hospital in Norwich, CT and several off-site locations, is readying some of its medical coding staff for the ICD-10 transition with the online, self-paced course Anatomy & Physiology for Coders.

Backus coders selected Libman Education’s special Triple Play program, which offers one year unlimited access to the course. This allows them to take the course as many times as they want within a year – and to use it as reference for a period of time after next October’s ICD-10 implementation. The year duration also provides more leeway for coders with time constraints.

“The A&P course has been of great benefit to the coders we trained earlier this year,” said Julie Chapman, Coding Supervisor at Backus Hospital. “This time around, we plan to take advantage of the course’s year-long subscription and maximize its use; we want the information to be ingrained in our coders. We appreciate being able to take the course as often as we need to, while also having the course long enough to put it on hold during a busy week.”

Libman Education began the one-year-access program after seeing a market need for coders to have more time to take the course. Another reason was the need for a refresher: with a one-year unlimited access, coders can retake or review the course right before the ICD-10 deadline – and have the material top-of-mind during implementation.

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders prepares coders for the anatomy-intensive requirements of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding. Students receive a comprehensive and complete review of major body systems and learning content of particular value to coders, including: common diseases and disorders, selected medical terminology, frequently ordered laboratory tests, and frequently prescribed drugs.

To engage students, the course includes full-color anatomical drawings, videos and interactive educational games. The course textbook, Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology, is written by veteran biology teacher Donald Rizzo.
