Missouri Next Stop for National Anti-Bullying Music Tour

Eleven school performances in Springfield and Reeds Spring from March 17-25

PRLog - Mar. 16, 2014 - SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Teen Nation Tour (http://www.teennationtour.com/) – a year-long anti-bullying campaign and concert tour featuring teen recording artists – will perform at 11 Springfield area schools starting Mon., March. 17 through Friday, March 28. This is the first time the tour has performed in Missouri.

The Teen Nation Tour is like no other anti-bullying effort. Young, talented recording artists travel the nation performing, educating, and empowering peers through music and personal stories. On weekends, the Teen Nation Tour holds public concerts without the anti-bullying message at non-school venues such as malls, theaters, and more.

The school program is 90 minutes and students learn about the types of bullying (http://www.teennationtour.com/), prevention, where to turn when it occurs, and more. The campaign is effective because the artists approach this important topic by relating to youth on their own level, sharing personal experiences and offering tips on how together they can stand and defend against bullying.

Headlining the Springfield Teen Nation Tour is former ‘X Factor’ contestant J Ryan (http://www.jryanofficial.com/), 14, of San Antonio, Texas; and Tristan Blaine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8oqQWqsLr0), 14, of Frisco, Texas. Statistics about bullying and teen suicide are alarming.Bullying affects nearly one in three schoolchildren in grades six through 10 and one of every 10 students who drop out of school do so because of repeated bullying. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. More than 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost seven percent have attempted it.

The Teen Nation Tour is a national, grassroots effort traveling to schools across the country. In three months, the tour has visited five cities holding 70 school and public performances reaching an estimated audience of more than 50,000 people. This year, the tour is scheduled to perform more than 330 school and public venues in about 40 cities, 22 states, reaching an estimated half-million people.
