CHARLESTON, S.C. - March 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina spoke about estate planning issues to residents of North Central Apartments in Charleston, SC on Tuesday October 1^st 2013. North Central is a residence for senior centers in the Peninsula of Charleston. Mr. Guthrie spoke to an audience gathered as an event sponsored by the South Carolina Aging In Place Coalition Speaker’s Bureau. The SC Aging In Place Coalition is an organization that has a goal of keeping seniors living in their chosen residence through education and availability of different resources to help them obtain that goal. The Speaker’s Bureau portion of the group does educational outreach events to help inform those in attendance of  different aspects of how to age in place successfully and the numerous amount of resources that can help facilitate the desire to remain in one’s home.

Attorney Evan Guthrie spoke about different estate planning, probate, and elder law issues including the biggest legal obstacles that may get in the way of one’s wish to stay in their house, what happens if one becomes incapacitated without proper planning, what a durable power of attorney can do to protect someone, different types of advance directives and how they fit in one’s decision to remain in their residence, and many other elder law issues. Mr. Guthrie also fielded questions from the audience that included if one had to have a local durable power of attorney and how long certain estate planning documents last or need to be updated.
