Fred Brophy announces the dates for his upcoming 2014 Australian boxing tent tour

March 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Fred Brophy is the last of the travelling tent show men who takes a troupe of boxers on tour around north Queensland and sets his boxing tent up in local towns. Tent boxing is a dying tradition that was part of the Australian show culture and other social gatherings stretching back over 50 years or more. Local fighters are invited to spend 3 minutes against his boxers in the ring. A prize purse is offered if the boxer can stay for the full 3 one minute rounds. Fred Brophy has just announced the upcoming dates for his 2014 Boxing troupe tent tour. The Dates are below.

        Sat 12^th April. 2014

·       Avendale Tavern Bundaberg:

        Friday 2^nd + Saturday 3^rd  May 2014

·       Longreach Show:

        Friday 16^th +Saturday 17^th May 2014

·       Mt. Isa Rodeo:

        Wednesday 6^th,Thursday 7^th ,Friday 8^th,Saturday 9^th and

         Sunday10th   Of August 2014

·       Moura cattle and Coal festival:

        Friday 22^nd August  2014

·       Birdsville Races Thursday 4^th September Friday 5^th -- Saturday 6^th September  2014

Fred Brophy and his team of boxers travel with his tent and will take on all comers who are willing to join them in the ring.

About Fred Brophys boxing troupe

At the start of the show Fred Brophy comes out and beats on his drum to announce to the crowd that the fights are about to begin. Standing in his trademark silky red shirt, banging the drum, Fred Brophy informs the crowd that "this is where boxing champions are discovered".

 Local fighters are matched up with his team of boxers and the show begins. The fights take place on a canvas mat in the middle of the tent.There are no ropes and the edge of the matt is the boundary of the ring. After the fighting is over the boxers and the locals forget the ringside grudges and join each other for a few ales and a friendly yarn.
