Channel 5 Belize Attempting To Create Doubts In Huang Election

By: Lord Neil Gibson

BELMOPAN CITY, Belize - March 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Channel 5 Belize has taken to the airwaves in an attempt to spin public opinion toward the belief that the recent election of Ralph Huang to the position of Standard Bearer in the Cayo South District is somehow improper due to his relationship with a Las Vegas businessman named Lord Neil Gibson.  Channel 5 has to date made numerous reports as well as utilized press conference video footage of Prime Minister Dean Barrow being asked questions regarding knowledge of campaign contributions on the part of Lord Neil Gibson to Huang's election campaign.  This campaign on influence has gone far past the points of legitimate presentation of factual news, and is now touching on suspicion as to the people behind the reporting, and the reasons they may be so vocally questioning Huang.

This year marked the election of Huang to his new position, and this outcome was almost immediately brought into question on the national stage by Channel 5, who began running stories about the fact that Huang's campaign was contributed to by his friend, Lord Neil B Gibson.  Due to the fact that Lord Gibson has stated business interests in Belize, and has promoted several development projects on his websites which have not yet come to fruition, Channel 5 immediately questioned the motivations of Gibson for the campaign support.  Gibson never hid the fact that he contributed to the election campaign, and was quite vocal through video and press releases distributed through his network of websites and social media spaces like Youtube about his support of Huang.  Huang also verified Gibson's contribution and support of his election campaign in interviews following the outcome.  The questions about the specifics of this relationship were obviously not answered satisfactorily to Channel 5, who pivoted away from the blatant presentation of Huang himself verifying that support and contributions were made to utilization of an anonymous posting on their own website as proof that Gibson somehow has malicious interests in Belize, and Huang is his pawn.  That story that has now been quoted time and time again by Channel 5 as a reason to doubt the viability of the election comes down to a single quote from the author referring to Gibson as a "fraud." The article can be viewed here: http://edition.channel5belize.com/archives/88561/email

In this op-ed that still sits on the Channel 5 website in the category of "uncategorized" and with an authorship of "anonymous" allegations against Gibson are stated, then backed up with absolutely no facts, or even the hint that there might be some facts that have yet to be discovered.  It is simply opinion, and the opinion of an anonymous person at that.  The fact that this story is housed within the website of a "legitimate" news organization responsible for bringing facts to the people of Belize, and this story is not only not categorized appropriately as "opinion" but is additionally being used by the very organization who created it as some sort of verification that an elected candidate is somehow suspect must raise the question of the legitimacy of the news organization itself, and the motivations behind this coverage.

Lord Neil Gibson has well documented his contributions to Huang's campaign on his websites, and Huang has verified his relationship with Gibson in interviews.  The fact that the Belize-oriented projects that Gibson has circulated on his websites are not yet complete does not actualize any improper actions on his part, it simply means that the projects have not yet moved forward.  If the action of contribution to a campaign or the support of an election effort makes a person suspect or a politician corrupt, then anyone who has ever put a sign on their lawn, worn a t-shirt or handed out a campaign flier is suddenly corrupt, and all elections that have ever seen this kind of activity must be questioned.  Channel 5 Belize is simply acting as a medium to stir up controversy because someone in their organization does not like Lord Neil Gibson, or Ralph Huang.  The motivations behind this flawed and suspect coverage have yet to surface, but if the past few weeks have set any precedent at all we can count on Channel 5 Belize itself to provide its own verifications.
