Australia Eliminates Sponsorship Limits on Subclass 457 Visas

The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has recently eliminated the sponsorship limits on subclass 457 visas.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - March 13, 2014 - PRLog -- The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has recently eliminated the sponsorship limits on subclass 457 visas. As per the new policy, employers will continue to estimate and report the total sponsorships to DIBP; the same will no longer be subject to strict limits and scrutiny, reports Nair & Co.’s Global HR Services Team.

DIBP requires all employers submitting applications to become subclass 457 visa sponsors to provide the total estimated number of nominations to be made during the sponsorship period. This number will be accepted subject to a reasonable limit on the number of foreign workers a sponsor will require. Further, DIBP has reduced strict analysis of company nomination forecasts based on previous parameters (size, annual staff turnover, and local employers employed) and, has started accepting employers’ forecasts on the number of foreign employees as a logical limit.

Lastly, employers will not lose sponsorship status even if they nominate additional foreign employees than their original forecasts. Hence, no restriction will be applied on the total number of foreign employees sponsored during the sponsorship period.

It is important for employers to note that clarification is still pending on whether existing subclass 457 sponsors will remain subject to the nomination limits mentioned in their sponsorship approvals.

Nair & Co. a provider of global HR services for companies with international operations advises companies looking to hire foreigners in Australia to take advantage of this new policy. The temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) allows skilled workers to travel to Australia and work in their nominated occupations for up to four years.
