Sissy does a bona fide interview with filmmaker Matthew Bonifacio LIVE this Friday night!

NEW YORK - March 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Mr. Bonifacio's feature film directorial debut, Lbs., was nominated for the John Cassavetes Award at the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards. He also co-wrote and produced Lbs., which premiered at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Alfred P. Sloan Award. Theatrically released in 2010 in seven cities, Lbs. had the #1 per-screen-average in the country its opening weekend.  Lbs. received positive reviews by top critics from Variety, New York Times, New York Daily News, New York Magazine, New York Post, The Village Voice, TimeOut New York, Hollywood Reporter and many other critics. Lbs. is now available on DVD, iTunes, Amazon Instant, VUDU, XBOX 360 and Sony PlayStation, and frequently airs on PBS.  Lbs. was released on iTunes in January 2012, and has broken into the Top Charts for Top 25 Movies.

At the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival’s first annual Tropfest@Tribeca, co-jurors Matt Dillon and Naomi Watts awarded Mr. Bonifacio’s short, The Watering Hole, the Grand Jury Prize. Mr. Bonifacio directed, co-wrote and produced the film. The award jury also included director Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler), producer Caroline Baron (Capote), actress Famke Janssen, actor Anthony LaPaglia and writer/producer Charles Randolph (Love & Other Drugs).

Mr. Bonifacio directed and produced his second feature film, Amexicano (co-starring Raul Castillo from HBO’s Looking in his first feature film role), which made its world premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. Amexicano, acquired by Maya Entertainment Group, was theatrically released in the fall of 2008. The film received positive reviews in The New York Times, New York Daily News and Variety.

Short film credits include: From Woodside, Queens (Oscar®-qualifying Aspen Shortsfest), Bagelized! (Oscar®-qualifying Palms Springs Shortsfest, Oscar®-qualifying Aspen Shortsfest) and New Boobs which was one of six projects commissioned by Atom.com formerly AtomFilms).  With over 1 million plays, New Boobs was the most viewed commissioned short by Atom.com of all time.

Mr. Bonifacio has directed and produced commercials for Major League Baseball/Verizon, DRI (starring Sugar Ray Leonard), Ad Council's Campaign For Freedom, HSBC, Vonage and others.  He directed, wrote and produced, Open Up, an Anti-Racism PSA, which won a Telly Award, Cine Golden Eagle Award and at the Intercom/Chicago International Film Festival he won a Special Achievement Award for Direction.

His short film, Migraine, premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, and went on to screen at five other film festivals.  Migraine received distribution by Shorts International and was released on iTunes in 2013.  The film features Nathan Lee Graham (Zoolander, Hitch, Sweet Home Alabama) and Laverne Cox (Orange is The New Black).

Fortune House, his most recently released short film, world premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.  Since Tribeca, Fortune House has screened at eight additional film festivals, receiving two awards for best short film, including The Christopher and Dana Reeve Award at The Williamstown Film Festival. Fortune House also received distribution from Shorts International and will be released on iTunes this spring.

Mr. Bonifacio is in post production on his fourth feature, The Quitter, starring Deidre O’Connell (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Jack O’Connell (Inside Llewyn Davis), Dan Grimaldi (The Sopranos), Joshua Rivera (Gimme the Loot), and Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black, American Pie), where he also plays the lead character, Jonathan.

Mr. Bonifacio was born, raised and resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, producer Julianna Bonifacio.
