Follow on Google News | Explore The Atherton Tablelands With DiscoverYungaburra’s impressive strangler fig, which is more than 500 years old, will be used to entice hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Atherton Tablelands as the latest Discover visitor guide is launched.
By: Tropical Tablelands Tourism He said each year a new hero shot depicting an iconic location across the Tablelands is selected and this year, the Discover committee could not go past the gigantic fig tree. “The Tablelands receives 500,000 visitors every year and we want them to discover every part of this amazing and diverse region. Thanks to our members, TTT has once again been able to create this definitive guide to the area. “2014 is going to be a really exciting year for Yungaburra. The Avenue of Honour, which was officially opened in June last year, has become a real drawcard for visitors and this is likely to increase when the inaugural Soldier On Triathlon is held later this year.” Published annually by Tropical Tablelands Tourism, the award-winning 54 page glossy magazine is the most widely distributed regional publication in Australia. Each year 150,000 copies find their way as far afield as Cooktown, Mackay, Karumba, Mt Isa and Barcaldine, and consumer travel shows Australia wide as well as information centres in the North Queensland region. Mr Trout said this year, the magazine had continued to expand its content, with dedicated editorial on the surrounding regions. “Visitors to the Tablelands can come via a number of means - the Palmerston Highway near Innisfail, the Gillies Highway south of Cairns, the Kuranda Range, via Mt Molloy and the Cooktown Development Road from Cape York. “We want Discover to be potential travellers’ first point of contact and in the process highlight just how easy it is to reach the Atherton Tablelands from anyone of these other key regional destinations. “These are all world class drive routes and extremely important gateways to the Atherton Tablelands.” Mr Trout said readers could also find information on unique adventure activities that can only be seen on the Tablelands including a section dedicated to Lake Tinaroo. As in previous years, the publishers canvassed both visitors and staff at the region’s Visitor Information Centres to ensure accuracy and relevant content. Michael Trout said the refreshed and updated editorial and design throughout the magazine ensured its ongoing utility for visitors.
