WORCESTER, U.K. - March 11, 2014 - PRLog -- “What’s your Postcode?” company, Postcode Anywhere, is delighted to announce its support for Code Club a ‘not-for-profit’ nationwide network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs aimed at 9 – 11 year olds .

In order for Code Club to be successful it is reliant on volunteers with computer programming  experience to help run one hour-long sessions each  week.  The projects that Code Club create, teach children how to program by showing them how to make computer games, animations and websites.

Postcode Anywhere is supporting Code Club by sponsoring its vital volunteer recruitment events to be held at key locations throughout the country with the first one taking place on the 13th March at the Big Chill Bar in central Bristol

Postcode Anywhere’s CEO Guy Mucklow said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring certain ’key-location’ Code Club volunteer recruitment events.   It is widely recognised that there are specific skills gaps in the technology sector, particularly in the vitally important area of software coding.  Initiatives such as the fantastic work that Code Club are doing to generate interest within the very impressionable pre-teen age group are helping to make significant inroads in bridging this gap as are the recently announced changes to the National Curriculum, which place a much greater emphasis on the “how” rather than “why” side of technology teaching.

“From what I have seen from both the hugely enthusiastic children and their parents who have embraced the Code Club approach and from the highly motivated software programmers who are volunteering their time, it seems to be a ‘marriage made in heaven’.”

Postcode Anywhere has recently set up its own technology foundation in order to support school computer science focused learning initiatives and its support for Code Club is just the beginning. The Midlands technology company would advise potential volunteers with computer coding skills to go along to the event and find out how they can pass on skills to future generations.

Code Club’s co-founder Clare Sutcliffe said: “We are pleased to have the support of Postcode Anywhere to host events for programmers around the country. Our aim is to give as many children as possible the chance to learn to code, and we can't do that without professional programmers volunteering to run the clubs. We hope that these events will take us closer to meeting our target of having a Code Club in 25% of schools by 2015.”
