Announcing Free Family Fun, Celebrate National Quilt Day! Kenosha Public Museum’s, March 8-30th!

KENOSHA, Wis. - March 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Sew, you think you can quilt? Everyone can!  The Kenosha Public Museum, Kenosha, WI, celebrates, National Quilt Day, with the Southport Quilters Guild Annual Members Show, March 8-30, 2014.  The theme for this year’s exhibit is FUN AND FUNKY.   Quilters, will demonstrate their techniques while creating a unique quilt to compete in the Guild’s Quilt Challenge, titled, “Quilt That Tune”.  Quilters are challenged to create a 20” X 20” quilt, incorporating a piece of fabric with a musical print design, representing their selected song. Vote for your favorite Quilt, place a bid at the 2014 Art Fair auction, on July 20^th, 2014, and it just might be yours! Proceeds benefit Kenosha Public Museum’s programming. Along with the companion programming, 2014 National Quilt Day- People, Pets, and practically Everything Else, and- Funky Fun with Quilts, celebrating National Quilt Day has never been so much fun!

National Quilting Day began in June 1991, as a result of a resolution passed by members of the National Quilting Association, Inc. to sponsor the annual day of observance on the third Saturday in March.  Gradually, through the years, it has unofficially expanded to the entire month of March.  Quilt makers have a long standing tradition of producing beautiful and functional heirlooms, and for generations, they have made contributions to their families and communities as well.

Special Events Include:

2014 NATIONAL QUILT DAY! KENOSHA PUBLIC MUSEUM, March 15, 2014 from 10am to 5pm FUN AND FUNKY QUILTS, in the Daimler Chrysler Hall.

Exhibit by the Southport Quilters Guild members, includes the Southport Quilters Guild “Quilt Challenge”. Quilters will be on hand throughout the run of the show. Learn how these works of art are created from fabric and thread!

10:00am-1:30pm: Fun Family Activities, and Quilting demonstrations, by members of the Southport Quilters Guild

2:00pm:  Quilt Talk and Trunk Show by Cindy Garcia.  (FREE TICKETS AVAILABLE-March 15, beginning at 10am.)  Seating is limited and unreserved.

PEOPLE, PETS, AND PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING ELSE, a trunk show, presented by Cindy Garcia, represents Ms. Garcia’s passion for quilting for the past 17 years.  Despite the three chronic, painful diseases Ms. Garcia experiences, her creativity keeps flowing, with the help and encouragement of her husband, family, and faith. Enjoy some of her many fun and funky quilts, made through the love of sewing, a true talent, she has embraced since she was a child.  People, Pets, and Practically Everything Else, is sponsored by the Southport Quilters Guild, and the Friends of the Kenosha Public Museums.

Sunday, March 16^th,  2014 1:00 to 4:00pm: FUNKY FUN WITH QUILTS Sunday Fundays, Free Family Public Programs for adults with children!

Sponsored by the Friends of the Museums, this free drop-in program, FUNKY FUN WITH QUILTS, lets you make your own, no-sew quilt and a patchwork treasure box!  Go on a fun and funky SCAVENGER HUNT through the quilt show.
