Reddon explained that AGV forklifts have advanced dramatically over the decades. The Seegrid vision-guided navigation takes the inconvenience out of integrating an AGV vehicle into the business process. “You won’t need to install wires or even make substantial changes to the organization of your workspace. These automated forklifts feature range-finding, stereo cameras that can identify and record information about a route. The truck can replay this information, almost like the human mind,” commented Reddon.
AGVs cost about $2.24 per hour to operate. A forklift driver may cost $20 to $35 per hour. Besides this savings, flexible AGVs reduce the chance of human error, and because there’s no driver, the risk of employee injury drops, as well.
Other benefits of flexible AGVs include:
More flexibility than traditional AGV designs
Accurate maintenance schedules due to consistent and timely labor
Durable performance that will not get sick
No travel or non-value-added duties that would be required of a forklift operator
