Flagler County, FL - Flagler County Education Foundation Board Members and Committee Chairs Nancy Carlton and Matt Maxwell hosted the organization’s 11th Annual Mardi Gras event on Tuesday, March 4th.

The event was purposely held on ‘Fat Tuesday’, the annual Christian holiday that commemorates the traditional feast day before the start of Lent season on Ash Wednesday.

Guests wore their finest festive attire, masks, and beads to celebrate the 11th Annual Mardi Gras & Casino Night.  They dined on elegant Southern Cuisine while revelers exchanged “gaming bucks” for chips to be used at the various game tables.  Chips were “cashed in” for the chance to win fabulous prizes.

One hundred and sixty people attended the event and it was held at Halifax Plantation. Major sponsors include Florida Power & Light, Publix Super Market Charities and Palm Coast Ford.

Proceeds from the event, totaling $12,761, will be matched dollar-for-dollar using dollars awarded from the state legislature to fund FCEF’s Take Stock in Children College Scholarship Program and the foundation’s teacher grant programs.

One of the prizes was a money hat and it was won once by Denise Calderwood, then she donated it back to the foundation and it was able to be ‘re-sold’ and boosted 50/50 raffle sales. Assistant Superintendent Jacob Oliva and Marketing 2 Go’s Cindy Dalecki sold tickets, with total raffle ticket sales just under $500.

The Flagler County Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit direct-support organization committed to generating financial support to enhance the educational programs benefiting Flagler County Public Schools.
