El Cid Vacations Club Mexico Highlights Mazatlán Carnival 2014

Celebrated every year since 1898, Carnival occurs the week before Ash Wednesday as a way for people to release any pent-up energy before the abstinence that comes with Lent. Carnival features some of the most exuberant festivities to be found anywhere in the world, with Mexico’s Carnival celebrations rivaling those of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

The 2014 edition of Carnival in Mazatlán was no exception. With its theme, “La Piel del Mar,” Carnival attracted visitors from around Mexico and the world. Parades included extravagant floats during the weeklong celebration as hundreds of thousands of people enjoyed all that Mazatlán and El Cid Vacations Club have to offer.

Adolfo Blanco raised more than 120,000 pesos for charity and was named Carnival’s King of Joy, while Zuszet Guevara was named Child Queen, having raised more than 245,000 pesos for charity. However, Mazatlán’s Carnival’s court was highlighted by Carnival Queen Lorena Lizárraga Zatarian, who was crowned amid a sea of joyful samba dancers paying tribute to all of the Carnival festivals being celebrated around the world. Being named Carnival Queen is a high honor in Mazatlán, and candidates have to meet a strict set of guidelines.

Carnival is traditionally highlighted by a musical performance from a major Latin artist or group, and the popular music group Sasha, Benny y Erik performed at the 2014 Mazatlán Carnival.
