Michigan Environmental Hall of Fame Announces Inductees for 2014

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - March 8, 2014 - PRLog -- The Michigan Environmental Hall of Fame has announced its inductees for 2014. They will be inducted in a ceremony, open to the public, at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum on April 10 at 7PM.

         The individual inductees are Norm Spring, he helped form the Michigan Pesticides Council and was a leader in the fight that eventually led to DDT being eliminated from the State and the Country.

Joan Wolfe was the founder of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council and served under Governor Milliken on the Natural Resources Commission.

Don Inman had the concept for the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.  This concept has created a fund that actually gives our grandchildren something to show for the oil, gas, and minerals that our generation uses.

Dave Dempsey has helped shape conservation and Great Lakes policy for 30 years and is an author and co-author of six conservation books.

The Clinton River Watershed Council is the inductee for Non-profits. The mission of the Clinton River Watershed Council is to protect, enhance, and celebrate the Clinton River, its watershed, and Lake St. Clair.

In the College/Schools category, the Mayville Elementary School will be the inductee. The Mayville Elementary School has possibly the only program of its kind in the State.  They have 15 acres of land on their school grounds that are “Certified Wildlife Habitat” by the Wildlife Federation.

The Wolf & Moose of Isle Royale will be the inductee for the Project category.Durward Allen, who initiated the Isle Royale wolf-moose project in 1958, was a pioneer among ecologists for having the foresight to understand the value of continuing to observe where others would have drawn conclusions and moved on to study something different. He continued observing.

The Legacy category saw two inductees.  One is Ralph Bailey. He was a mentor, friend, supervisor, conservation leader, consummate biologist, patriot and family man.  He stood for wildlife management based on sound science

Tom Washington was the second. Tom was long time Executive Director of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. He was a lifetime advocate for the wise use of our natural resources. Tom also served as President of the National Rifle Association.

These people and organizations will all be inducted into the Michigan Environmental Hall of Fame this April 10.
