PORT ORANGE, Fla. - March 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center has broken ground on a new 5,240 sq. ft. facility, located at 1208 Dunlawton Ave. in Port Orange, Fla.

The all-new center will be a Florida Hospital Centra Care Urgent Care facility and is expected to open in the summer.

“As health care changes, many people prefer an urgent care setting in which they can receive prompt care during extended hours,” said Darlinda Copeland, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center Chief Operating Officer. “Partnering with Centra Care – who is well known for excellent service and quality care – fits with our mission and also meets the needs of the communities in east Volusia County.”

This facility will be the 25th Centra Care in Florida and the first in Volusia County.

“We’ve been hoping to come to Volusia County for quite some time,” said Scott Brady, MD, CEO of Centra Care.  “A number of factors go into expansion selection: local demographics, having a need for urgent care access, and having a good employer base are just a few reasons why we believe that Port Orange is a perfect location for our next Centra Care.”

This is not Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s first foray into Port Orange. In October 2011, the hospital opened an outpatient clinic at the Pavilion at Port Orange. Here, families with sick children can see a wide range of pediatric specialists, ranging from cardiology to orthopedics, to oncology and urology, among others. In addition, the facility is home to family practice physicians and a variety of outpatient services, including imaging, laboratory services, rehabilitation and sports medicine. The addition of the Centra Care facility in Port Orange reflects the hospital’s expansion of services to meet the growing needs of patients in southeast Volusia County.

“Port Orange is a very important city and with unique and growing needs,” said Copeland. “We want to be a part of the fabric of the community and aim to provide the services that people need, at the time they need them. At our new Centra Care facility, area residents will receive fast and convenient care for urgent, non-emergency medical needs.”

This project comes on the heels of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s construction of an outpatient facility in New Smyrna Beach. The hospital broke ground on this $14.5 million facility, located at the southeast intersection of Interstate 95 and State Road 44, in October 2013. The 31,200-square-foot facility is expected to open in the fall and will include imaging, lab, rehabilitation and physician offices, including both specialists and primary-care physicians, as well as a community meeting room.

Florida Hospital Centra Care has also recently expanded. Last month Centra Care celebrated the grand opening of their second Tampa-area clinic, and has already begun construction on a third Tampa Bay location. The company also announces plans to expand outside of Florida, opening facilities in Maryland by fall.

For more than 30 years, patients have come to trust Centra Care in their communities. It is Central Florida’s only hospital-affiliated urgent care provider that promises to always have a physician on-site. From coughs, colds, infections, allergies and flu, to broken bones and other orthopedic conditions, Centra Care’s team of board certified, adult and pediatric-trained doctors, will be available for families seven days a week.

Because time is valuable, Centra Care offers an online, no wait reservations system, to schedule to see a doctor when it’s convenient. But, because they understand injuries and illnesses can happen at the most unexpected moments, walk-ins are always welcome.

Centra Care offers on-site labs, and other immediate healthcare services such as X-rays, EKG, stitches, physicals, blood pressure testing, immunizations, and more.

Employers and employees can also take advantage of the wide variety of occupational medicine offered by Centra Care, which includes pre-employment and worker’s compensations services, such as work injuries, employee physicals, and drug and alcohol testing for public and private employers of all sizes.
