The audition-free ensemble will present masterpieces by Mozart, Mahler, Holst and other greats.
An audition-free, amateur community ensemble, NewWSO held its debut concert to an oversold audience in March 2012 in at ArtsWestchester in White Plains, NY. Since then, NewWSO has performed over 30 concerts throughout Westchester County, many at public libraries, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, and other venues where people cannot necessarily travel to hear a live orchestra musical performance. At its Spring Concert on April 6, NewWSO will present a refreshing take on classical music performance by showcasing how "everyday people" can come together to create beautiful sound in addition to doing whatever else they do in their regular lives. Doctors, lawyers, administrators, parents, retirees, high school students and others will perform repertoire usually reserved for professional orchestras: Brahms, Mozart, Mahler, and more. NewWSO will be at TD Bank, 285 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains NY to promote the concert. On Wednesday April 9, NewWSO will hold a post-concert event with live music at Sam's Restaurant of Gedney Way, 50 Gedney Way, White Plains, NY. 10% of all restaurant and bar sales that evening will go back to fund NewWSO's continued activities of bringing music to Westchester amateur musicians and audiences. In the past year, the number of musicians in NewWSO have swelled to more than 65 and continue to grow, a sign that avocational Westchester musicians are hungry for an opportunity to express themselves through great music in a non-competitive, joyful environment. Membership in the orchestra is open to the general public, provided there is room in the instrument section.
