PRLog - March 7, 2014 - The 15th Annual Academy Viewing Gala benefiting Children Uniting Nations (CUN) was a huge success, thanks to celebrities and sponsors who came on board to support this charity.

The organization was co-founded by Honorary Chair Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Bill Clinton (Clinton was a foster child ) along with Daphna Ziman to support children in foster care through mentorship programs and advocacy.

This annual event, held in Beverly HIlls has become one of the most prestigious celebrations of the Awards season, honoring supporters who have shown compassion and commitment to improving the lives of at-risk youth and children in foster care.  The gala was sponsored in part by Coca-Cola; Cinemoi; Runway Magazine; The Michael Jackson Foundation; The Ruth Ziegler Family Trust; Ziffren Brittenham LLP; Hula Girl; Spicey Charlie’s Catering; Dama Tequila; Shakespeare Vodka;, Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs Howard Avchen & Shapiro LLP;  Miracle Hydrate; Paul Goldenberg; Vegas Vodka;  Pauli Orchon; Simone Rodrigues; Magnolia Pictures; Chef Jack Lee; Luna Vineyards; Moreno Champagne; Bel Air Bellini; and others.

In true Hollywood style, attendees arrived and entered the canopied walkway to be greeted by throngs of photographers and press.  Walking the red carpet  were celebrities and guests from film, television, music, sports and philanthropy, including Beverly Hills Mayor John Mirisch; seven-time Oscar nominee Radha Mitchell; People’s Choice Awards recipient Beverly Todd; longest-reigning heavyweight boxing champion, Mike Tyson;  three-time Grammy nominated singer, Maria Conchita Alonso; the most famous book cover model in the world, Fabio;  two iconic members of the Supremes, Mary Wilson and Scherrie Payne; Kuba Ka, known as the Prince of Entertainment in Europe; MAD TV’s Erica Ash and, Kym Whitley, who recently landed a second season of her show “Raising Whitley” on Oprah Winfrey’s network. Also among the Who’s Who in the world of philanthropy were the Le Chats, Fran and Marc, whose company, Celebrity Services Africa, took on the mammoth task in South Africa of producing the tribute to Nelson Mandela.   Accompanying the Le Chats were  Jennifer Trubenbach, President of the Nelson Mandela Legacy of Hope Foundation and her daughter, Mari Mora.

The gala kicked off with the hilariously funny comedian/actor Tommy Davidson and his co-host Shadoe Stevens (AKA, the Voice of America), while a seven-course dinner prepared by Chef Charlie of Spicey Charlie’s Catering was served.

The program followed by a speech from Cassidy Mack, the recipient of this years' award.  Cassidy was chosen for her dedication to enriching the lives of children in foster care and serving as a positive role model for youth throughout the nation.

She approached the podium with the confidence of a seasoned professional and spoke eloquently about her early years of living within the foster care system before being adopted into what she calls her “forever” family. Today Cassidy is pursuing a career in acting.  Her outgoing personality led to a chance meeting with actor/producer Ryan Gosling who inspired her to transition from acting in theater to moving into film.

Cassidy knew early from the time she was adopted that she was an exception to what are not always positive foster care outcomes.  Today, she uses her experience to help other children in foster care, speaking publicly at every opportunity to bring awareness to organizations like Children Uniting Nations as well as her own organization, "Love Gives Chances."  “Children Uniting Nations is a cause she feels strongly about.  In fact, she is the youngest receipients of the Award.

This event had special meaning for Committee Chair and Board Chair, John Fagerholm. Fagerholm, a former foster child spearheaded this years’ volunteer committee to bring about this successful celebration.

“Our goal is to build this organization’s mentorship program as well as increase the fundraising efforts,” said another board member.

After the tables were cleared, guests were treated to an after party and the sounds of DJ Doug E Fresh. Doug E was the first hip hop artist to reach the number 1 charts on national radio. The highlight of the evening was a performance by Chaka Khan backed by Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. The evening ended with an impromptu performance by Venezuelan recording artist Leandro Arturo.

Dawn Christie, owner of a celebrity spa retreat, summed up the evening by saying, “these children are a part of our community. They need positive role-models to help them lead productive and well-meaning lives.  Daphna Ziman has shown us how we can make a difference in the life of a child.”
