CHICAGO - March 6, 2014 - PRLog -- This event is hosted by the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance-Greater Chicago. The 15th Annual Symposium is designed for consumers of services, family, friends, and coworkers of persons with mood disorders. At this mini-conference, they will explore advocacy as one of the most important factors in the mental health world, often overlooked in its importance to Recovery.

Thanks to mental health advocates everywhere they have breached some of the stigma of mental illness and discrimination of those affected. Professionals attending the event are eligible for 6 CEUs. DBSA-GC’s speakers include:

Mark Rasenick, PhD – Dr. Rasenick is a University Professor of Physiology & Biophysics and Psychiatry of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Corey Goldstein, MD – Dr. Goldstein is the DBSA-GC Medical Advisor. He is also the Assistant Professor for Psychiatry and Associate Clinical Director of the Treatment Research Center at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

Betsy Tolstedt, PhD –  Dr. Tolstedt is the head of the Evanston Veterans Center and will address issues affecting recovery for our military. Much of what will be discussed also applies to civilians affected by PTSD and TBI (traumatic brain injury).

Mr. Mark Ishaug, CEO - Mr. Ishaug has a proven track record within the community, building public/private partnerships and fighting stigma and discrimination among vulnerable populations. His experience as President & CEO of AIDS United and President & CEO of AIDS Foundation of Chicago, both former positions, parallels the work he will do as CEO of Thresholds.
