TSSA continues record of generosity with $100,000 donation

Annual convention brings total donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children to half a million

LANCASTER, Texas - March 6, 2014 - PRLog -- The members and friends of the Texas Self Storage Assocation (TSSA) have once again banded together at their annual convention to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The TSSA is the largest self-storage organization in the country and exists to support, train, and inform self-storage operators, employees, and investors. Each year, the TSSA invites its membership and vendors to attend a convention held in rotating locations across the Lone Star State, a large portion of which is devoted to charitable fundraising.

Convention goers were presented with multiple opportunities to make a difference in the lives of suffering children including a charity poker tournament, live and silent auctions, and a pledge to match donations up to $25,000.

TSSA Charitable Fundraising Co-chairs Doug and David Hunt, of Lancaster-based Access Self Storage, have spent the last twelve years building fundraising campaigns that enable TSSA members to get involved. "Our members were just waiting for a way to give. The TSSA is providing that," says David Hunt. Donations are collected throughout the year at member locations and via the TSSA itself. This year, these generous funds were matched by an equally generous pledge from Global Roofing Company of $25,000, bringing the total donations to just over $50,000.

The rest of the year's fundraising stemmed from the annual convention. Day one of the convention saw a successful charity poker tournament, followed by live and silent auctions on day two. The Hunt brothers stepped up the live auction game by inviting out celebrity auctioneers Dan Dotson and Walt Cade of A&E's hit "Storage Wars" franchises. Together, the two whipped the bidders into a television-worthy frenzy, raising over $36,000 in less than an hour. Added to the rest of the funds raised, Dotson and Cade brought the grand total to $100,000, all of which was donated directly to the Shriners burn hospital in Galveston.

The Galveston hospital of the Shriners Hospitals for Children is one of only three in the Shriners network to specialize in burn care and other skin conditions. The non-profit facility treats children regardless of their parents' ability to pay and relies heavily on outside donations. Since 2001, the TSSA has made the hospital the official beneficiary of all funds raised throughout each year. The organization has given over half a million dollars to date.
