ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - March 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center has recently purchased and installed a Siemens 3T MAGNETOM Verio MRI, a $3.5 million technology, at its freestanding Imaging Center at 335 Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 250 in Ormond Beach.

A MRI is a medical imaging procedure that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce cross-sectional images of organs and internal structures in the body.

While MRI isn’t a new procedure, the 3T MRI has improved upon the technology by scanning multiple areas of the body at one time, eliminating the need to reposition patients, leading to a faster exam and ultimately better image quality. Additionally, the 3T MRI boasts innovative new coils that result in high resolution orthopedic exams and breast exams, as well as advanced technology for exquisite detail for neurology imaging.

As a further benefit, the 3T MRI has an extra-large opening, enabling Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s Imaging Center to comfortably accommodate patients of all shapes and sizes, as well as reducing anxiety for those who suffer from claustrophobia. Also, the 3T MRI has a newer sound system, making it possible for patients to listen to their music of choice while undergoing a procedure.

Acquiring this new technology was more than a year in the making and included four months of construction to accommodate the new 3T MRI. These $300,000 renovations added extra space to the Florida Hospital Imaging Center and provided additional shielding for patient and staff safety due to the magnet’s improved strength.

In October 2012, Florida Hospital Flagler, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s sister facility, acquired a 3T MRI at the Palm Coast hospital’s Parkway Medical Plaza Imaging Center.
