In addition to all of the momentum and positive results being garnered from The Tea Party Program, Jackson Myles is starting to see her dream unfold right before her eyes. “One of my dreams for this program is to have the young ladies who attend my Tea Parties to have job opportunities with my corporate partners. That dream came true last Christmas when one of the TJ Maxx District Managers called to share that he wanted to offer a Holiday job to any of my Cincinnati participants. I was ecstatic!” Jackson Myles adds “It’s one thing to have a dream, it’s just so awesome when others see, believe and support your dream. One of the key Sister Accord’s raison d’etre is creating a pipeline of future leaders for businesses around the globe who understand the importance and power of positive, collaborative relationships. This will assist an enterprise or organization in delivering exceptional results. These are the type of people they will want to hire.”
Dr. Monique Gardner-Witherspoon, CEO of Girls, Inc. of Central Alabama and co-sponsor and host, Rosilyn E. Houston, Executive Vice-President, Retail Banking for BBVA Compass were on hand to bring greetings to the attendees. The students were given a special "Sistabration"
The participants also received another surprise via Skype. They had the opportunity to meet the designer (Lisa Adkinson of Lisa Robin Jewelry) of their Sister Accord Jewelry Collection pearl bracelets that were presented to them during a special “Gift Ceremony.” District #1 Sumter County Commissioner, Drucilla Jackson, brought 12 students from Sumter County Schools to participate in the event, and served as a Tea Party Mentor. She shared “This program is exactly what our young women need. I was honored to do my part in helping Sumter County students have an opportunity to be a part of this special day in Birmingham.”
Dr. Gardner-Witherspoon, an influential leader and dynamic speaker, shared "What your dream is today may not necessarily be the dream you have tomorrow or the next day, or the day after that, or even after you graduate from college. It may take you a little time for you to identify exactly what it is, and that’s ok." Mrs. Houston stated in her remarks, “The message of sisterly love, and hope, and dreams, and developing relationships, is critical to our individual and collective growth. It is also critical to the growth of our communities.”
In 2014, The Sister Accord Tea Party Tour will visit the following remaining cities: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Louisville, Nashville, New York, Seattle and Washington DC.
