AURORA, Colo. - March 5, 2014 - PRLog -- The smiles and happy chatter tell it all! Residents at the retirement community, Kentucky Circle Village, or daytime guests at Worldwide Adult Day Care gather around a large table engaged in activities with Miss Shirley. Miss Shirley seems to know just how to pack a whole lot of fun into her educational programs. Perhaps it is the way she has honed her skills of teaching children, teachers, daycare providers, and parents over several decades.

The residents at Kentucky Circle Village recently spent a couple of afternoons enjoying hands-on programs involving Americana, an early American experience, and Ancient Egypt – The Gift – of –the – Nile. Americana activities featured grinding corn on stones, writing letters with Quill pens, making hornbooks, samplers, and cornhusk dolls. The program ended with refreshments of Johnny Cakes, Journey Cake, and Spiced Cider.

The residents of Kentucky Circle Village followed up with the Ancient Egypt program. The hands-on activities included wrapping their own mummy, learning Hieroglyphics, and making clay cartouches and scarabs. A brief history of the culture was presented by Miss Shirley. The afternoon concluded with a feast of the foods ancient Egyptians enjoyed.

The daytime guests at Worldwide Adult Day Care enjoy Miss Shirley’s twice weekly science activities. In addition to science, Miss Shirley combines other hands-on learning to stimulate the brain activity and eye-hand coordination. She spices up the learning with some occasional cooking which the quests enjoy.

Miss Shirley’s easy teaching style lends itself to young and seniors alike. No matter what the age, participants have a better understanding of their world and excel in life when they have experienced it.

Each workshop or program is designed to meet the needs of the participants. Learning should be filled with discoveries!

“If it hasn’t been in the hand, it can’t be in the brain!”
