A Celebration of Love Concert Raised $48,500 to Benefit Park Place Outreach

SAVANNAH, Ga. - March 3, 2014 - PRLog -- (SAVANNAH, GA) The Celebration of Love event, an evening of jazz, auctions, dinner and entertainment, held Friday, Feb. 7 raised $48,500 to benefit The Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter and its Street Team program for local youth. The Celebration of Love concert was held in recognition of the organization’s 30 year anniversary at the Plantation Club of the Landings.

In 2012 through sponsorship support, Park Place was able to raise $23,000. From the Celebration of Love Concert, Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter raised $48,500, surpassing the goal of $30,000. The money raised will be used to pay for 356 days of services for the children of the shelter.

Park Place Outreach offers a special thank you to the sponsors of this years event, including: Joe Dobransky, GA Power, Sea Island Bank, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Derst Baking, OC Welch, Korean Presbyterian Church and Savannnah Tire.

The Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless statistics indicate a total homeless population of 4,202. Of the total number of homeless people in the area, 18%, or 774, are children under the age of 18. According to a May 2011 report from the Homeless Liaison of the Savannah-Chatham Public School System, attending school that day were 412 students who identified themselves as homeless. The mission of Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter is to provide safe temporary shelter or outreach services for homeless, abused and runaway youth of Savannah and the surrounding area and to provide counseling and other services to them and their families with the goal of reunifing the family whenever possible.

Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Shelter, located at 514 E. Henry St., provides support for troubled children and teens in Savannah and the surrounding area. Opened in 1984, the shelter, open 24 hours a day, offers youth, between the ages of 11 and 17, a safe and loving environment. Homeless, abused or runaway teenagers can self-admit themselves into this shelter. Whenever possible, the organization’s goal is to keep kids off the street and reunify families.
