Life is not a race at every stage, though consciously or otherwise, we are conditioned to perceive life as a race track. Beginning from childhood, this relentless race continues till the end of a person's career. Winning the race has become so important that people are tempted to pay any price to make it happen. The relentless pressure of trying to win everything has a tendency to distort the human value system. While in the short run, the illusion of success may prevail, sooner or later this illusion disappears. This causes immense pain and regret not only to the individual but to the family as well. When the definition of success is restricted only to money, fame and position, it becomes highly individualistic and to some extent self destructive. Worse still, it has the capacity to destroy many lives directly or indirectly as has been experienced with various financial frauds in India and at a global level.
The narrow perception of success needs to change. Unless the definition of success is expanded to include making a positive impact on the community and the society, it means very little even to the person concerned eventually. Hence there is a dire need for changing this perception and mindset in an individual and the society as a whole.
Are those who are considered as losers by society, really losers? Is failure at any stage of life permanent and is success everlasting?
The books take the reader through a different perspective of life and shows how a person can achieve success in spite of failures, how an individual can find happiness by adopting a more 'inclusive' approach towards society. This includes exploring the joy of giving without expectations and the inner satisfaction brought about by compassion. It also demonstrates how a change in perspective can help a person to win against tremendous odds, challenges and circumstances. Finally the book leaves the readers to ponder about how life acquires a distinct meaning when every person finds a 'higher purpose'.
The book explains all these things in an eloquent manner and through some inspiring stories, encourages people to elevate the meaning of life by finding their own higher purpose. The style of writing is very commendable. The simple approach of writing strengthens the appeal of the book and clearly portrays the purpose of writing this book.
