DIN or Director Identification Number is required for any Individual who wants to join as a Director in New or Existing Private Limited Company, Limited Company or Limited Liabilities Partnership (LLP) Company. Director Identification number is allotted by the Ministry of Company affairs. This is a one-time process, and the identification no can be used unrestrictedly, to join as directors in as many companies as provided under the Companies Act 1956 / 2013 as applicable or joining the LLPs as Designated Partner. The concept of a Director Identification Number (DIN) has been introduced for the first time in 2006 with the insertion of Sections 266A to 266G in the Companies Act, 1956. As such, all the existing and intending Directors have to obtain DIN within the prescribed time-frame as notified. The Designated Partner Identification Number (DPIN) is governed by Rule 10 of the Limited Liability Partnership Rules, 2009.
