“Student-athletes have been coached on every aspect of their game for years,” says Jonathan Ressler, CEO of Big Fat Sports and the author of the manual. “If they want to win at the recruiting game…and it is a game, then they need an experienced coach to guide them through the process, and The Social Media Play Book provides all the coaching any prospect needs,” said Ressler.
This comprehensive 140-page manual covers every topic a prospective recruit needs including multiple worksheets to guide them and keep them organized. Topics including how to find any coach’s contact information, how to initiate contact, social media strategies, athletic recruiting myths debunked, the truth about camps, clinic and showcases and much more. All of the information in the book was written from Ressler’s work with hundreds of athletes over the years in their efforts to get recruited.
One day a friend asked him to help create a marketing campaign for his son to make him more marketable in the college recruiting process. He worked with this athlete and his family to refine the strategy and execute a plan to make this kid more visible to college coaches. He essentially turned him into a brand that was desirable to a specific group of coaches and marketed him directly to those coaches. He was ultimately contacted by 22 coaches and is playing Division I football today. He worked with more than 100 kids the next year but obviously could not work with all of them closely so took notes and synthesized them into a game plan that any prospect could follow.
Ressler has been a top gun marketer for the past 25 years creating marketing strategies and campaigns for some of the biggest brands in the world including Nestle, Nintendo, Best Buy, Ford, Pepsi, L’Oreal, Barnes & Noble, Anheuser-Busch and many more. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, People Magazine, and has made appearances on Good Day New York, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno among others.
