Five Black Ballerinas Take on The Artistic World

NEW YORK - March 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Marian L. Thomas is well-known for her bestselling novels ‘My Father’s Colors’ and ‘Strings of Color’, which have received the USA Best Book Finalist Award. The contemporary author that has been called the first African American pioneer of women’s clean fiction will release her latest novel, ‘Blue Butterfly’, on April 4, 2014. She has specifically chosen this date because it is also the anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Marian L. Thomas has connected the death of the American pastor and activist to the fate of her main character, Precious Blue Johnson. She showed how his death influenced the life of a promising ballerina, Anya Duport, who was to become Precious Blue’s mother.

‘Blue Butterfly’ is inspired by the lives of some of the most talented and popular black ballerinas of all times. There are five black ballerinas who managed to convince the world that the ballet was not exclusively an art for white girls: Raven Wilkinson, Lauren Anderson, Tai Jimenez, Misty Copeland, and Aesha Ash. In a society that judged people on the color of their skin, these strong and determined women proved they were just as good as any white ballerina, earning their place on the world’s biggest stages. Just like them, Precious Blue wants to make history. She is aware that it is not going to be easy, because people might not be ready for a black ballerina, but she will never give up on her dream.

At the beginning of the novel, Precious Blue is a young and innocent girl with a daring dream and a great desire to find her birth father in New York. When she leaves her hometown, she has no idea what may be waiting for her, but she feels this is the right step to take. She will soon meet Ray Silvers, a gorgeous young man and also a promising doctor, and they will begin a beautiful relationship. However, there will be plenty of obstacles to overcome. Will their love be strong enough to fight against a dark past?

Marian L. Thomas has always aimed to offer her readers engaging, dramatic stories focused on strong female characters. Her books are a perfect blend of tragedy, romance, black history, and fast-paced action, always touching on thought-provoking themes, such as discrimination, betrayal, race, and abuse. ‘Blue Butterfly’ is a heart-warming romance story, but also a powerful account of a young woman’s struggles to achieve her dreams.
