Downsizing On Her Own Schedule

RALEIGH, N.C. - Feb. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Raleigh, North Carolina, homeowner Megan Jurgens doesn’t want to wait several months to sell her 3500-square-foot home in North Raleigh’s Brookhaven community. She doesn’t want to worry about keeping it in “show shape” indefinitely and leave the house during every showing. She doesn’t want all the “dickering,” as she calls it, over offers and counter-offers. And she really doesn’t want to have a buyer claim he or she loves the house then spend the next three weeks making a bevy of demands before closing.

So Megan Jurgens has asked real estate auctioneer Sarah Sonke of Auction First, Inc. (http://www.auctionfirst.com/), to sell her house to the highest bidder. It will be on the market for 30 days only and there will be one Open House. Two weeks later, the house will have a new owner. No contingencies, no demands, no dickering.

Then Megan Jurgens will be off to enjoy the next chapter in her life.

Sarah Sonke will host the Open House of this two-story, four-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom house at 4708 Wildwood Street in Brookhaven on Sunday, March 9, from 1-3 p.m. Sealed bidding will close at 3 p.m. on April 3.

“I like to think of it as downsizing on your schedule,” Sonke said. “Megan has lived in this house for 35 years and raised a large family in it. But her kids are grown now and taking care of all that square footage has become a chore that saps her joy and her savings. She’s ready to go and she doesn’t want to wait around for the ‘traditional’ real estate market to let her.”

According to Sonke, a friend of Jurgens’, who happens to be a real estate agent, recommended the auction approach.

“I’ll admit this is an emotional event for me,” said Jurgens, a former real estate agent herself. “Sarah understands, and she has been absolutely wonderful. Drawing out the sale, dealing with all the dickering – I can’t do. I don’t want to do it. The auction will make the sale much less difficult in every way.”

Brookhaven is a premier North Raleigh, single-family community of predominately single-family homes along winding streets and cul-de-sacs. Originally developed along Glenwood Avenue, the community now extends north along Creedmoor Road and rambles across Millbrook Road to Lynn Road. Nearby are schools, swim clubs, Crabtree Valley Mall, smaller local shopping plazas, and a host of restaurants.
