NC A&T Alumni Association – DC Chapter Announces 2014 Honoree Gala Award Recipients

Feb. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- The Washington, DC chapter of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, Incorporated has announced the recipients to be honored at the annual Honoree Gala on Apr. 26 at the Bolling Club on Joint Base Anacostia – Bolling. Nine members of the A&T Alumni Association will be honored for five awards that express the DC Chapter’s appreciation for their service to the chapter, contribution in the community at large and for the inspiration for the alumni leaders for tomorrow.

Induction into the Washington, DC chapter’s Hall of Fame is the highest honor conferred by the chapter. The Hall of Fame  honors alumni who have provided outstanding support of the chapter, university and Alumni Association throughout a lifetime, and who have provided leadership in their chosen professions and local communities. Honorees are: Anthony “TJ” Jackson (‘81/83MS), Col. David H. McElveen  (’53, posthumous), (Lt. Col. Eugene Parsons (’69), Barbara Patterson (’60).

The Issac Woodard Distinguished Service Award recognizes alumni who have performed exemplary service to the alumni association in the following ways: Service in a long-term volunteer capacity, impact on the quality of life of others, leadership and creativity in dealing with societal problems, and ability to serve as a source of inspiration for others. This year’s honoree is Kristen Rutledge (’89)

The Dr. Joseph McKinney Achievement Award recognizes alumni who have rendered outstanding service and achievement in his/her profession, community or public service. Furthermore, this individual must also have been an active member of the alumni association with service to the chapter and/or national level. This year’s honoree is Felicia Brown (’89).

The Mae Holmes Young Alumni Award honors alumni younger than 40 who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to Washington, DC chapter and the Alumni Association, the general welfare of their community, and their profession. This year’s honoree is Darryl Foster (’04).

The National Achievement Award honors any A&T alumnus who has devoted him/herself to the greater good of the Washington, DC chapter. This year’s honorees are longtime supporters of the chapter and the A&T Alumni Association: Herbert Tillery (‘70)  and former congressman Edolphus Towns (’56).

The Honoree Gala is an extraordinary event honoring the A&T Alumni Association – DC Chapter’s most distinguished alumni. All proceeds support DC Chapter programs, which support A&T students to become the next generation of alumni leaders, community outreach and social justice initiatives. This year, guests will enjoy a social hour, live music, an elegant dinner and a chance to mingle with some of A&T’s most accomplished alumni.
