247 Home Rescue demonstrates dedication to young people by hiring 50 apprentices in a year

PRLog - Feb. 28, 2014 - 247 Home Rescue has taken on an additional 50 apprentices since February 2013, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to school leavers during the difficult labour market during the run-up to National Apprenticeship Week (3rd – 7th March).

The firm - which is based in Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington, Lancashire, and specialises in boiler cover, boiler servicing, appliance cover and home emergency cover – has already been noted for its dedication to the careers of young people. It has been making investments in apprentices since it was initially set up in 2012, and received praise for doing so from the National Apprenticeship Service in April 20131. The company also has a dedicated in-house trainer to support its apprenticeship schemes.

Johar Hussain, 247 Home Rescue’s Training and Business Development Partner, said: “We are proud to be able to help young people gain vocational skills, experience and qualifications through our apprenticeship programmes.

“While other companies are downsizing, firing young workers, and reducing their expenditure on training, 247 Home Rescue has used its success to build up the size of its workforce and provide people who need it the most with on-the-job experience and useful vocational qualifications.

“The media regularly complains that school leavers are unsuitable for the jobs market nowadays, but this has not been our experience. Our new apprentices are, without fail, hard-working, tenacious, intelligent and driven – just the kind of people any business would be proud to employ – and they simply need to be given a chance to achieve success.

“We have found that apprenticeship programmes are beneficial to both 247 Home Rescue and to the apprentice themselves. We receive the dedicated staff necessary to fuel our expansion, while the apprentice gets their first foot on the career ladder and receives the training and experience they need to get ahead in the modern workplace.

“Our aim is to get our apprentices up to minimum pay plus commission as quickly as possible.”

247 Home Rescue recently took on 16-year-old school leaver Frazer Smith as an apprentice. After three months of hard work, Frazer was taken on as a full-time employee, and is now on Over Target Earnings of £20,000 per annum.

The latest government statistics reveal that 19.9% of 16 to 24 year olds were unemployed in the last quarter of 2013, or 917,000 young people in total2.
