Follow on Google News | Friendship Network is Jumping For AutismFundraising event to benefit the Student-to-Student Autism Connection Advocacy Group.
The Student-to-Student Autism Connection (SAC) wanted to get a “jump” start on April being Autism Awareness Month by having this event at the end of March. The student advocacy group started in 2008 when a teenage client of the Friendship Network presented an idea for a new program. He wanted Autistic and neurotypical people to stand together, and believed that if he and the Friendship Network joined forces their message would be heard. Together with the guidance of Nancy Swanberg, founder of the Friendship Network, local teens with and without Autism have met weekly over the course of 5 years. They provide support to each other and develop presentations and workshops with the message of autism acceptance and understanding. The current members of SAC offer free “Autism Acceptance: Aware and Share Interactive Workshops” to schools, colleges and community groups. The Student-to-Student Autism Connection’s goal of having their message heard on an even larger scale can happen with the help of this event. The dedication of the SAC members has the Friendship Network jumping for joy! The Student Autism Connection members request the attendance of community members ages 5 and up to join them in Jumping for Autism on March 19th. Visit http://networkforchildren.org/ End
