PRLog - Feb. 26, 2014 - DULUTH, Ga. -- On Thursday March 6, the environmentally-focused and community-based nonprofit organization – Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful – will play host to Georgia’s honorable Governor Nathan Deal and more than 1,000 community and business leaders from across the state at its 8th Environmental Address. Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful presented its first Environmental Address in 2000, featuring a stirring speech by then Governor Roy Barnes. Former Governor Sonny Perdue has shared his views on the environment at a number of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Addresses, as well. At this year’s Environmental Address, Governor Deal is expected to speak about the importance of being good stewards of the environment, as well as the effect those efforts can have on the state’s economy.

“We don’t always think in terms of the environment’s impact on our local economy,” explains Connie Wiggins, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. “We may consider its effect on our health or the beauty of our surroundings, but it truly is a much larger issue than that. If we all work together as a community of good environmental stewards by focusing on water and air quality, the importance of recycling to diminish the size of our landfills, sustainable green practices at home and work, and the creation of green jobs, our combined efforts will not only have a very positive impact on the local area, but also on its economy. I – for one – am very excited to hear Governor Deal’s speech. He is a wonderful advocate of environmentalism.”

Throughout his tenure as the 82nd Governor of Georgia, Nathan Deal has protected Georgia’s environment for both its ecological and economic worth. He understands that the state’s natural resources support agriculture, tourism, jobs, and businesses alike. Governor Deal is committed to bringing new water supplies online in preparation for Georgia’s growing population and the potential for future droughts. Georgia has already pledged $300 million to begin state direct investment in water supply projects throughout the state.  In addition, Governor Deal has promoted water conservation efforts and will continue to protect Georgia’s water from outside entities.

The 2014 Environmental Address will be held at the Gwinnett Convention Center – located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth – from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Lunch will be catered by Proof of the Pudding. Individual tickets are available for purchase at http://www.gwinnettcb.org/event_news/environmental-address/ for $45 per person. Proceeds from ticket sales will help support the educational and community beautification programs of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and its partners.  Attire at the event is business casual.

Beyond the Address, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful is preparing for a county-wide Great American Cleanup event – which runs March 1 through May 31, 2014. Additional beautification projects and events will be scheduled throughout the year, and citizens who wish to take part are encouraged to check the event calendar regularly for upcoming dates.
