PORTLAND, Ore. - Feb. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- Lucky Bat Books announces the release of novels by three new voices in literature - J.S. Anderson, Richard Sessions and Dianna Henning. The three new authors insert history, poetry and suspense into their books, each in literary style, each one a riveting fictional read.

In J.S. Anderson’s Book of Hours, The Beguilement of Brother Alphaios, readers meet a modern cloistered monk on his first day in the chaotic streets of New York City. The story moves quickly along as the brother tries to stick to his order’s strict rules of seclusion while also being drawn to the shapes, colors and sounds of this new world, one so different from his home monastery in Italy.  The brother, an artist whose skill is in restoring ancient books, has been called to New York to repair an illuminated Book of Hours. But where did this unusual book come from? And which Pope had a hand in it? The mystery unravels as the brother follows threads, both historic and current, and the reader dives into this complex and beautifully written mystery, walking alongside the brother to the very end.

Seasoning the Blade by poet Dianna Henning takes young adult readers back in history to a time when young women’s futures were sharply limited, especially in rural towns of Nova Scotia. Dianna Henning, a poet whose work has appeared in numerous reviews and who has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, gives young readers – and adult readers who discover this gem of a book – a story so beautifully written that it’s sad to see it end. Seasoning the Blade is the first in a series of books about Ella, her Nova Scotia town, her MicMac friend Stands Like a Tree, and her own path away from the bonds that hold her.

Richard Sessions’ book, Gregory’s Anomaly, takes the reader along a far different road, in a story that captures the latest evidence in evolutionary findings. It’s happening now, where a team of researchers in Los Angeles discover a Neanderthal genetic structure that has been handed down through hundreds of generations. Sessions delved deeply into his years at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, Oregon, where he administered neuroscience research, for the seed of the idea that became Gregory’s Anomaly. He knows about the worlds his characters inhabit, and he writes a suspenseful novel where scientists, religious conservatives and medical professionals line up to gain control of little Gregory and all that his genetic anomaly might mean to each of them, while Gregory’s mother fights for a normal life for her unusual child. Who wins the race, and the battle? Therein lies the story, and it is a lively and adventurous one that takes the reader on a ride through modern laboratories and off-the-radar communities.

Published by Lucky Bat Books, the Book of Hours: The Beguilement of Brother Alphaios, Seasoning the Blade, and Gregory’s Anomaly are available in trade paperback and ebook editions, including Kindle, Nook, iBook, and Kobo. Cover art for The Book of Hours is by Guillherme Condeixa; Seasoning the Blade by Nuno Moreira and Gregory’s Anomaly by Brandon Swann.
