Original Rugs, Art, Artifacts & Antiques from Tibet - A Unique Exhibition/Pop-up Store

Feb. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- For 5 days, from March 26th to 30th, this unique pop-up store will showcase a selection of original Tibetan rugs, artifacts and antiques.  The eclectic collection includes highly distinctive pieces, all personally sourced from along the ancient Tea Horse Road (also known as the Cha Ma Dao in Chinese), one of the greatest odysseys ever made by man.

The exhibition will be hosted by Adrian Bottomley, the owner of Hong-Kong based adventure trekking specialist, Whistling Arrow. For 15 years, Adrian has traveled to remote regions of Western China to explore one of the world’s oldest journeys and most important trade routes. For thirteen centuries, mules hauled tea 3000 miles along its path into Tibet, while in the opposite direction, came war horses to protect China's Northern borders against the Mongols.

Against the backdrop of some of Asia's most rugged and powerful landscapes, Adrian was regularly welcomed into the heart of Tibetan homes and given the rare opportunity to procure original artifacts directly from their local owners.  "Most pieces had been in the possession of families for decades, with clear provenance and interesting stories to tell" says Bottomley "making them very different from anything else to be found in Hong Kong".

On display will be an woolen Tiger meditation rug made from natural dyes, a rare Tibetan 'Double Dragon' khaden and a wonderful shaggy 'Dorje' rug from the isolated Wagden Valley. Just 25 pieces in total, the collection also includes unusual Tibetan wooden panel paintings, ornate saddlecloths, beautifully carved wooden window panels and small but exquisite antique chests.  Working in conjunction with the Shangrila Cultural Preservation Society there will also be two striking examples of their resident master's Buddhist Thangka paintings.

Last but not least, complimentary Pu'er 'brick' tea will be served and for more adventurous visitors, a slideshow featuring two of the best (and yet to be discovered) pilgrimage treks in Eastern Tibet, Yading and Kawa Karpo.

The pop up store and exhibition will be open between 10am and 8 pm from Wednesday March 26th until Sunday March 30th.
