American Red Cross Youth Heroes Awards Breakfast

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Feb. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- The Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross has been heeding the call for assistance for over 95 years in Savannah. The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

From 1881 until today, Clara Barton’s devotion to serving the needs of those in distress has remained the focus of the Red Cross. As the lifeline of Red Cross services, volunteers stand ready to respond to hundreds of disasters each year. Without its strong base of volunteers, the Red Cross would not have the necessary staff to fulfill the Red Cross mission. This is why are excited to introduce a new and unique annual fundraising event. Our entire Chapter and Board of Directors have been busy planning the 2nd Annual Youth Heroes Breakfast to be held at Savannah State University on Friday, April 11, 2014.

During the event we will recognize youth heroes who have honorably chosen to give back to their community through volunteering. A study of youth development indicates that youth volunteers are twice as likely to get better grades in school, 25% more likely to positively contribute to their family and community and twice as likely to continue their volunteer efforts as adults. Through volunteer initiatives, youth adopt mentors who lead by example, serve as a source of guidance and inspire young adults to achieve their goals with confidence. The 2014 recipient of the Volunteer Mentor award is Cathy Hill, Vice President of Georgia Power Coastal Georgia Region.

Please consider helping the Red Cross honor these well deserving Youth Heroes by sponsoring the event, purchasing a table or a ticket today!
